Solar Installer
Reports to: Job Forman
The Solar Installer will be responsible for assembling the racking and solar photovoltaic (PV) modules on roofs, ground mount installations, and other structures and connecting electrical wiring in compliance with the site assessments and schematics, as instructed by the Job Forman.

Smucker’s Energy is a 15-year-old privately owned and operated solar installer. We predominantly work in the commercial and agricultural sectors, with some residential work thrown in. We are a growing firm building a much larger headquarters. We have an excellent culture that we are determined to maintain as we grow. Who You Are:
Someone with integrity, a good work ethic, good communication skills, and a positive attitude who can follow directions and take the initiative when necessary. You are a motivated individual who will assist with installing and servicing photovoltaic systems. This role is ideal for individuals looking to expand their knowledge and expertise in electrical work and solar technology under the guidance of experienced professionals.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of residential PV systems.
- Support senior technicians in troubleshooting and repair tasks.
- Ensure the safety and effectiveness of installations.
- Learn to interpret system schematics and technical diagrams.
- Help maintain project documentation, including preparing system performance reports and service logs.
- Always adhere to company safety policies and procedures.
- Provide excellent service to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification from a technical school is a plus.
- 6 months to 1 year of experience in a similar role or recent graduate from a vocational training program in solar technology.
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and solar technology.
- Ability to work comfortably at heights and on roofs.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
- Effective communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Compensation:
- Hourly
- Commensurate with experience and education
Physical Demands:
- Ability to transport materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks (up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance)
- Ability to work on rooftops with various angles and surfaces, which requires frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, turning, standing, and balance
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces, which requires kneeling and crouching
- Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions including but not limited to excessive noise, extreme heat, extreme cold, wet environment, and humidity
- Ability to frequently utilize hand functions requiring fine motor skills, including but not limited to fine manipulation, grasping, and pinching
- Ability to work within the safe range of equipment such as ladders, fall protection harnesses, and other personal protective equipment
- Ability to work and maintain balance on roofs and other areas of height
- Ability to work in the sun and possibly low light conditions
- Ability to walk on rafters, roof tiles, and roof shingles without damage
- Ability to distinguish colors such as red, black, yellow, white, and green
- Ability to hear verbal commands and warnings
- Ability to work with chemicals using appropriate protections
- Up to 35% travel required
